June 1, 2017 @ Darul Arqam Islamic Centre
On June 9 the TWLIP Service Coordination Action Group held an Iftaar & Community Information Fair in collaboration with the Darul Arqam Islamic Centre. The action group coordinated the participation of ten community organizations with a broad range of services including Settlement support, language instruction, job skills training, professional bridging, and wellness programs among others.
Representatives of these organizations set up tables and displays with resources and information about their programs and engaged residents and members of the community who were interested in learning about the services they offer. The York South-Weston Member of Provincial Parliament, Hon. Laura Albanese, and Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, attended the event and spent time speaking with people and accepting requests of members of the public to take photos with her. Following the information fair, everyone enjoyed a delicious iftaar, coordinated by the Darul Arqam community.
There was very positive feedback from both service providers and the mosque about the benefits of the event and the spirit of collaboration that was fostered in planning and carrying out the event.
