March 21, 2018 @ COSTI Corvetti Education Centre
The Education Resources Action Group in collaboration with COSTI Immigrant Services co-hosted an Education Fair at the Corvetti Education Centre on March 21, 2018. Approximately 300 newcomers attended the fair. These participants included English language students and internationally trained professionals who were looking to be connected to programs and services that would help them upgrade their skills and pursue their education goals.
Fifteen service providers had tables at the event. Colleges and universities participated as did OSAP and World Education Services. The newcomer participants were connected to a wide variety of information about admission requirements, academic upgrading, vocational and skills training, and certificate and diploma programs. Service providers also educated participants about foreign academic credential assessment and financial aid and scholarships.
Two workshops were offered at the Education Fair on March 21, 2018 for frontline workers. The aim was to build the capacity of service providers in helping their newcomer clients – students and internationally trained professionals – navigate the accreditation and licensing process. Global Experience Ontario (GEO) and World Education Services (WES) facilitated the workshops. Service providers gained the knowledge to help guide their clients through the process of accessing the various institutions and services required to advance their academic and professional careers in Canada.
A lunch was provided for all courtesy of a grant from Humber College. The Education Resources Action Group is looking forward to hosting another Education Fair with COSTI in the future!
